It is located near the eastern side of the Kosi River. The name Saharsa is derived from the Sanskrit word Saharsa which means “laden with happiness”.

Saharsa is famous for its lytchis and mangoes. In the 20th century, Saharsa is a part of Munger and bhagalpur district, which was made a district of its own on April 1, 1954.

Saharsa is part of Mithila region. The languages ​​spoken here are Hindi, Maithili and others.

Shri Ugratara Temple, Mahishi, Surya Temple, Kandaha, Chandikasthan, Viratpur, Rakta Kali Temple, Matsyagandha, Saharsa are famous tourist places in Saharsa district.

Saharsa district has two sub-divisions; Saharsa Sadar and Jasmari Sthiyarpur. There are 10 development blocks and 10 circles in the district.

Botanical nameof Fox nut is Uriel Ferox. It belongs to the Nymphaeaceae family. These are the original inhabitants of East Asia. Makhana contains 347 calories, 9.7 grams ofprotein, 0.1 grams of fat, 76.9 grams of carbohydrates and 60 milligrams of calcium. It is rich in manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. Makhana has no flavor or taste,

It is a perennial plant. It grows in water and has bright bright purple flowers.The leaves of the Makhana plant are large, round, the leaf stalk is attached tothe middle of the lower surface. The stem, leaves and flowers float on the surface of the water. The stem, leaves and flowersfloat on the surface of water. It is an edible seed that is propagated using seeds. Makhana seeds are small and grow in large clusters.

Makhanais used in making dishes and medicines all over the world. It is edible in both raw and cooked form. In India, it is used for eating by roasting it with spices and oil. Makhana is used to make kheer which is very tasty. It is also used to make Cantonese soup. Makhana is used to prepare Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicines. Makhana is useful to eat, it helps to stabilize blood sugar levels, support weight loss and promote heart health. It should be consumed in water only. It should be consumed within limits only. Makhana causes some side effects like allergies, gastrointestinal problems and increased insulin levels. Many essential micronutrients are present in food which are very useful for health.

Saharsa is a major producer of Makhana. Food from Saharsa is exported to foreign countries like America, Australia, France, Japan, England. Every year 2 lakh tones of food is exported to different countries.

  1. What is the suitable climate, soil and production potential of the crop in the district ?

Tropical and subtropical climate with relative humidity of 50 to 90% and 100-250 mm rainfall is suitable for makhana cultivation. Makhana grows best in stagnant water like ponds, swamps and wetlands under tropical climatic conditions. The depth of the pond should be 4-6 feet and there should always best agnant water in it. The soil selected for makhana cultivation should be disease free and cleanand should be selected from the lotus plants only.

Domestic trade one. Koshi is the Makhana. Charulta Makhana Industry Makhana is exported to countries like America, Australia, France, Japan and England. Every year 2 lakh tonnes of food is exported to different countries.
